SUMMARY:Wildlands Conservancy – Get Out! For Wellness: Slate Heritage Trail
DESCRIPTION:Wildlands Conservancy helped preserve the Wildlands Tract at Trout Creek near the covered bridge on the Slate Heritage Trail. This trail is a 3.3 mile "Rails-to Trails" project\, that uses the former Lehigh Valley Railroad right-of-way beginning at a junction with the D&L National Heritage Corridor Trail in Slatington. From that trailhead\, the Slate Heritage Trail continues west through Washington Township\, and Emerald to its end in Slatedale. There are four bridges on the Slate Heritage Trail an original trestle that was restored\, two prefabricated pedestrian bridges that were placed by dedicated volunteers\, and the Trout Run Covered Bridge that was built from the ground up and dedicated in 2004. We'll start in the middle and walk in both directions (not at the same time!). This smooth macadam trail is stroller and wheelchair friendly. Dogs on leash are welcome. Bathrooms are at the parking lot near the covered bridge and at the trail's eastern end near downtown Slatington. This walk is free and is part of the Get Out For Wellness series\, in partnership with Lehigh Valley Health Network. Please register online. ADDRESS: Big parking lot at 7808 7th Street\, Slatington PA 18080 GPS: 40.748176\, -75.622195 DIRECTIONS: From Route 22\, exit at Exit 53 onto Route 309 N. Travel on Rt. 309 north for about 7.4 miles until 309 turns left and Rt. 873 begins. Continue straight on PA-873 north for about 6.1 miles to W. Church Street in downtown Slatington. Turn left onto W. Church St and continue west for 0.4 mile to 7th St. Turn right onto 7th St\, crossing over a small bridge. Continue on 7th for 0.1 mile to the large parking lot on your left. We will meet in the parking lot. Questions: Arianna Kohler\, AKohler@wildlandspa.org
