Blue Mountain Lakes are ringed with overgrown roads from the summer homes built there before the Tocks Islands Dam proposal. When the area became Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (DWGNRA), the cabins and roads slowly reverted back into forest. There’s not a lot of elevation gain on this loop hike—some ups and downs--mostly gently rolling woods roads. This hike isn’t difficult, but it is longer than most of our outings. We’ll hike along the east shore of Lower Blue Mt Lake, pass a large marsh, to the smaller Hemlock Pond. We’ll circle Hemlock and head back on the west side of Blue Mountain Lakes. Optional short detour to an overlook of the Delaware River. Bring water and snacks. Dress appropriately for the weather. Wear sunscreen and insect repellent. You might like to bring hiking poles. Wildlands will supply some if you don’t have any. Dogs on leash are welcome. Portable bathrooms are in the parking lot. Note that this hike is longer than most GOFW hikes, 1pm - 4pm and about 5.1 miles in length. This location also has limited parking, carpooling is encouraged, and registration is required. Please no walk-ons for this hike. This walk is free and is part of the Get Out for Wellness series, in partnership with Lehigh Valley Health Network.
