We’ll begin near the famous Switchback Railroad, which became the first “roller coaster” in North America at the end of the 19th century. But you won’t see any “switchback” turns in this section. This out-and-back hike gradually slopes downward on our way out (and gradually up as we return!) We will start at an athletic field that was the location of the railroad station for the Switchback up Mt Pisgah. Our trail hugs the mountainside as it goes through dense rhododendrons. There are no views, but lots of interesting plant life. The trail has –guess—rocks and roots! Dress appropriately for the weather. Wear comfortable, sturdy footwear. If it’s rained recently, wear boots. Bring hiking poles. Wildlands will provide poles if you don’t have any. Dogs on leash are welcome. No bathrooms available. This walk is free and is part of the Get Out! For Wellness series, in partnership with Lehigh Valley Health Network.
